AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING

WHAT?

The Secondary School After Hours Literacy & Numeracy Tutorial Program involves three core areas of study: English, Mathematics and Science.

A teacher supervisor will monitor program tutors (university students and/or teachers) who will work with groups of approximately 10 – 17 students in Grade 9 – 12 to assist in reviewing curriculum that has already been covered by the classroom teacher. Teachers/tutors can also assist the students with homework assignments. The overall goal of the program is to improve the student’s performance and skills.

WHO?

For secondary students (Gr. 9 – 12) of the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board for whom a non-credit remedial program in literacy and numeracy has been recommended by the principal of the day school. It is intended for students who are at risk of poor learning outcomes and need help to improve their English, Math and Science skills.

WHEN?

Pending demand, the program will be offered on Monday and Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in ROOM 214 at Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School.

The first session will start on October 12th, 2010 and end January 20th, 2011.
The second session will start on February 8th, 2011 and end June 16th, 2011.

FEE

This program is offered FREE of charge for Grades 9 – 12 (funded by the Ministry of Education)

STAFFING

An English tutor may be assigned for a minimum of 10 English students.
A Mathematics tutor may be assigned for a minimum of 10 Mathematics students.
A Science tutor may be assigned for a minimum of 10 Science students.

HOW TO REGISTER?

Students can register for the program at their school guidance office.
Students are requested to complete an application form available in guidance or PRINT THE FORM.

Parent/Guardian signatures are Mandatory.
