Chad Pilon was inspired by good teachers and now he’s inspiring his own students to overcome obstacles, discover their passions, and stay positive in life.
Born with Cerebral Palsy, Pilon hasn’t let his physical limitations prevent him from pursuing his own dreams. It’s an attitude that he learned early at home and in his grade 7 & 8 classroom.
“I was lucky enough to have some great teachers, one of which is Dave Hansen who is now the Director of Education for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board,” says Pilon.
Hansen was Pilon’s Grade 7 & 8 teacher at St. David Catholic Elementary School.
“He was unbelievable in very simply including me in everything everyone else would do.”
That ‘can do’ philosophy followed Pilon to Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School where he was inspired by another teacher David Tabone, who taught him music in his senior high school years.
Pilon, now a music teacher at his former high school, shared his story with Celeste Licorish, Host of Cable 14’s Above and Beyond.
“Every challenge is an opportunity,” adds Pilon. That slogan has become his personal metaphor for life.
