2021 Ontario Student Drug and Health Survey

Dear Parents of Grade 9-12 students of Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School,

Student mental health and well-being are more important than ever this school year. We are seeking permission for your child to participate in an anonymous survey of Ontario students to assess how students are doing.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is conducting the Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey (OSDUHS) across the province during this school year. Our school was randomly selected to participate. The OSDUHS is an anonymous student health survey and one of the longest in the world (since 1977). The survey covers important and timely topics about drug use, mental health, COVID-19 experiences, physical health, bullying, gambling, video gaming, and demographics.

The findings from this study are widely used by the Ministry of Education, Public Health Ontario, your local public health unit, and other health professionals to guide programs and policies to improve youth well-being. It is particularly important to monitor students’ mental health at this time given the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the first time in the study’s history, the OSDUHS will be conducted online and students can complete the survey anywhere at any time using any electronic device. The survey is being administered by the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at York University on CAMH’s behalf. For more information, please see the attached study information flyer.

To give permission for your child to complete the survey, please read and fill out the online consent form by Monday, May 3, 2021. The link to the online consent form is below.

You will need the following information to complete the online parental consent form:

School Code: 689750
