Grade 9 Orientation and September Start-up Information - Aug. 23/19
This is Michael Lawlor, Principal of Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School, welcoming you to the 2019-2020 school year! I’d like to take this opportunity to express how thrilled I am to begin as Principal of our great school – a school that I, too, am a graduate of. In turn, I am excited that you will be embarking on your high school journey beginning shortly with Grade 9.
The reason for my telephone call today is to provide you with some important information about the upcoming school year.
Firstly, Grade 9 Students are encouraged to participate in the various orientation events that are happening next week. Specifically, the Passport to Grade 9 Program which is a two-day program held on Monday, August 26 and Tuesday, August 27 at B.R. that introduces incoming Grade 9 Students to high school life. Please call St. Charles at 905-577-0555, extension 3200, or visit www.stcharles.ca for more information and to register. As well, join us on Wednesday, August 28 for our own Grade 9 Orientation Day – a fun morning highlighted by an assembly, school tours, and more hosted by our own Student Council. The day begins at 9:00am at B.R. in our school theatre. No registration is required – just show up. There will also be an opportunity to make desired and necessary changes to your course timetable that day. Guidance Counsellors will be available at the school on that day to assist. If you are considering a change to your course timetable, now is the time to do it. Changing courses after the first day of school is not advised as you will be subject to long wait times and full and unavailable courses. Remember that you can retrieve a copy of your current course timetable at www.pathtosuccess.ca or by using the similarly named myPath app.
My second announcement is to remind you that there are many co-curricular opportunities at Bishop Ryan that are currently starting-up. For example, our Junior Football team begins tryouts and practices during the week of August 26 carrying on everyday from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Other clubs and teams may also be starting-up at this time. I encourage you to check our website, br.hwcdsb.ca, and Twitter account, @brcsschool, as well as any other communications for news about co-curricular opportunities. I also encourage you to be bold and join an activity that augments your high school experience.
Lastly, a reminder that the first day of school is Tuesday, September 3. We will begin the day at our normal 8:00am start time and be on a regular bell schedule. The first day of school is a full uniform day.
Thank you and enjoy the remainder of your summer. I look forward to meeting you in September!
